It’s Never How Many…

One the of things revealed in our Gospel, our Good News, is the importance of the individual. We have so many stories that name or otherwise identify people. Crowds are mentioned, but there are more stories about individuals. Jesus, famously, keeps telling people not to talk about him, but to share the work of God in their lives privately. He focuses on the person in front of him. And the work in an individual life appears to make the biggest difference.

Part of our good news is… it’s not how many… it’s who.

Today we talk about crowds. Influencers, podcasters, bloggers, like myself, are always checking the numbers. How many followers, how many viewed it, how many sold… it’s all about quantity. But God knows the person… each of us. “Not one sparrow falls outside your Father’s knowledge,” Jesus told us… and that we shouldn’t be afraid because we “are worth many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

As we go into this day, it’s good to remember that we have a worth that isn’t about our being part of the biggest crowd. God remembers, knows and doesn’t forget who we are within ourselves. Regardless of skin shade, ethnicity, level of wealth, heritage, title or prospects… God loves each of us, the person we are.
